The University seal was adopted in 1962 by the NMSU Board of Regents. The seal’s circular design includes the following elements: the words “New Mexico State University”, the year of our founding (1888), and the Zia symbol with the letters N, M, S, U, in the four corners.

The NMSU seal is a historical symbol and was established as a stamp of authentication for official actions, awards, and signatures of the NMSU Board of Regents. The seal should be reserved only for formal university business, including but not limited to, the diplomas issued to graduates, select and official documents, and commemorative items and awards. Files of the seal are provided upon request for approved uses.
