As NMSU's primary graphic symbol, the offical institutional logo should appear on all communications, including websites and other digital media, print publications, stationery, and signage.

As the university’s official identifier, the NMSU logo (or institutional mark) is the common thread throughout all university digital and print communications that establishes credibility immediately. For this reason, the NMSU logo should be used consistently in all NMSU communications, digital and print.

General Restrictions

The institutional mark can not be altered or modified in any way. This includes drop shadows, outlines, stretching, unauthorized colors and patterns, the addition of text and graphics, typeface, modification of the elements within the mark, enclosing the mark within another shape or combining the mark with another brand's logo.

Color & Type

The NMSU logo must appear in any of NMSUs core brand colors when being used in marketing and communications collateral. When using the logo on a background color, the logo must appear in either black, white or Aggie Crimson. Select a color based on what will give the logo the greatest visibility.

The "NM State" letters inside the institutional mark must not be altered or isolated in any way. Further, the font used for the "NM State" letters should not be used outside of the institutional mark. When the institutional mark needs to be combined with a unit name, a logo setup should be used.

Clear Space

To preserve the integrity of the NMSU logo, always maintain a minimum clear space around the mark equal to the height of the S in the word "State" in the NMSU logo. This minimum space requirement also applies to logo setups, using the institutional name and tagline and co-branding graphics.

Print: Mark must be at least a half-inch high.
Digital: Mark must be at least 75 px high.

Favicons and Avatars

The NMSU logo works across most applications. Favicons are displayed by web browsers in the header tab or in the browser’s URL bar of your page. The NMSU favicon should appear only in Aggie Crimson.

Placement

Include the NMSU logo at the top of all web pages in desktop, tablet, and mobile views so your site is instantly recognized as being part of NMSU. The logo should link to the NMSU homepage. On digital newsletters, include the NMSU logo in the header area to indicate your immediate connection to NMSU.

For both types of communications, be sure to include the full name of New Mexico State University. You can use an NMSU logo set-up, or you can place the full name in text in the footer contact area of your website or digital newsletter.

On print materials, the logo should be considered from the beginning so its presence in your design will be more effective. It shouldn’t be hidden on the back cover or an interior page.

Be sure to include the full name of New Mexico State University somewhere on your print piece if you are not using it as part of a logo setup.

Using the Offical Logo

When partnerships with external funding agencies, other universities or government labs require using the institutional mark and the outside partner's logo, that setup should be reviewed by NMSU Marketing and Communications to ensure proper use. The NMSU institutional mark can be displayed as a partner logo without being combined or altered.

In select cases, we can create custom, co-branded graphics for units that are funded mostly through external sources.

Co-branding Guidelines

  • To be eligible for custom graphics designed by MARCOMM, a unit should be funded at least 60% through external sources. Custom graphics will be used alongside the NMSU logo, a co-branded setup that visually represents the nature of the partnership.
  • The NMSU logo cannot be altered or blended with the custom graphic.
  • If you design a custom graphic, it must be submitted to Marketing and Communications.

Logo Setups

The NMSU institutional mark represents all members of the university family. All departments and offices should use the NMSU institutional mark along with the unit name; by proudly utilizing it, each department, office, and unit is represented as an integral piece within the university. These are known as unit setups or logo setups. We would be happy to produce an NMSU logo setup for your college, department or program, please contact us at 575-646-7557 or submit a logo setup request online.
